Andromeda – Who destroyed Nord Stream?

In 2022, the hype surrounding image-generating AI sparked public debate. Words were now able to wash photorealistic representations from the depths of latent space onto our surface. The emergence of “AI photos” was often portrayed as a threat to photography. AI-generated images were blamed for the potential loss of authenticity in photographic images.
The film deals with the relationship between image and authenticity. The focus is not on the loss of authenticity in photography due to AI images, but on the question of whether photographs can be authentic at all. This exploration led to a fictional documentary that reproduces narrative and aesthetic conventions in an exemplary manner in order to argue that images do not speak but are read.
